How to Make Golden Milk

Looking to sip on something hot this winter that’s not coffee, tea, or hot cocoa? Try this nourishing drink that’s nutrient-packed and just needs a few simple ingredients to make!

What is Golden Milk?

Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk or Haldi Ka Doodh, is super popular because of its delicious flavor and comforting aroma. It’s common staple in the Ayurveda world and is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Many people now enjoy it as an everyday drink because of its superior taste, nutritional benefits and how easily you can customize it.

The main stars of the show are milk, turmeric, and (preferably) a sweetener. All other ingredients can be added in small batches or left out completely.

The Best Make Golden Milk Recipe

If you’re familiar with Aryuveda, then you may have already tried golden milk or at least heard about it. Chances are you already have most, if not all of the ingredients needed to make this golden elixir in your pantry!

  • Milk: Feel free to use any dairy or vegan nut milk that you prefer! Cashew, almond, oat, or coconut milk are also great non-dairy milk options.
  • Turmeric: This ancient spice gives the golden milk its fabulous color as well as anti-inflammatory healing properties.
  • Spices: Get creative! Cinnamon, vanilla extract, cardamom, star anise, nutmeg, cayenne pepper (for a little kick) and ginger are all great options that provide unique flavors and different health benefits.
  • Black pepper: This deserves an honorable mention! Black pepper is a must because it helps the body absorb curcumin, a main compound found in turmeric.
  • Sweetener: Choose your preferred sweetener. This can be maple syrup, date syrup, honey, or coconut sugar.
  • Ghee: This is optional but adds a decadent buttery richness and healthy fats for a nutrient boost. You can also use coconut oil if preferred but I highly recommend ghee for obvious reasons 😇.

How to Store + Other Ways to Serve

This recipe makes 1 serving, but if you decide to double it then you can store it in the fridge for 3-5 days. Freezing is not recommended.

Here are some other ways you can jazz up your golden milk!

  • After the chilling in the fridge, pour golden milk in a glass over ice for a delicious iced drink!
  • Use a milk frother or blender and top with whipped cream to make this latte or frappachino style!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 small cinnamon stick (or ¼ tsp ground cinnamon)
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • Gheeluxe Clarified Butter, optional
  • Sweetener of choice to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk all ingredients together (minus ghee if using) in a small saucepan.
  2. Heat over medum heat until mixture begins to simmer . Take care not to boil.
  3. Turn off heat and adjust spices/sweetener if needed.
  4. If using, add ghee to an empty cup or mug.
  5. Strain golden milk into cup and enjoy!
