Creamy Buttery Grits

Grits are a southern staple that only needs a few ingredients to taste great. Although traditionally known as a savory breakfast dish, grits are versatile enough to be served as a dinner item or can even be flavored sweet like dessert!

To make this easy recipe, we boiled water with ghee and then slowly added in the grits while whisking. You want to make sure the grits are added in slowly to prevent clumping. This is what helps give the grits that smooth texture after cooking.

For the seasonings, we kept things simple with just salt/pepper and also added a dollop of sour cream for extra creaminess. That’s all you’ll need for this quick yet flavourful recipe!

Creamy Buttery Grits Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup corn grits
  • 1/2 tsp Gheeluxe Clarified Butter
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup lactose free sour cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and add ghee.
  2. Slowly add in grits while whisking.
  3. When all grits are added in, turn heat to low.
  4. Cook grits uncovered for 8-10 minutes or until water is mostly absorbed, stirring occasionally.
  5. Turn off heat. Add seasonings and sour cream and mix until well combined.
  6. Taste test and adjust seasonings as needed.
  7. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Add any cheese of your choice for cheesy grits!

Yellow or white corn grits will both work with this recipe.

Top with a fried egg for extra protien!
